Letters leaked by the office of the Rt Hon Mr Jack Straw MP.
Say that a deal was done a few years ago re the release.

I see Nelson Mandela has backed MacAskill's decision on compassionate release on licence.

Yeap - that's the UK Govt. for you these days - MP's taking the rest of us for a ride over their expenses and doing Del Boy deals continually - and as a result becoming a laughing stock in the world - Great Britain - you can scrap the word 'Great' these days.

As my hero Del Boy once said - "Chateauneuf du Pape!"

Not most Scots - over 2/3rds didn't vote for the SNP - but of course that's the constitution - majority party rules.

Good point and, as you say, 'majority party rules' but as a minority government, which provides good checks and balances as they have to convince other parties to participate and agree to pass legislation.

True...but Mandela was also involved in the Lockerbie air disaster case, I think he was instrumental in getting the Libyans to agree to be tried in a Scottish court in the Netherlands (Camp Zeist), which was part of Scotland for a while !
