What are your thoughts on global cooling, icy lady?

Oh, take the opportunity to enjoy some time for you. Give it a few years and you'll have grandchildren to bounce on your knee, so enjoy freedom while you can

what about the Chinese and Indians!

there are huge quantities of coal and iron ore being shipped to these two countries. There should be no deal on climate control without tying them down as well!

Sure, but bear in mind it is fiction.

http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/fcrichton.asp

Quote:

"State of Fear, the new offering from novelist and master of disaster Michael Crichton, is more silly than scary. What is scary is when some media and policymakers take a work of science fiction and confuse it with science. That's what's happening with State of Fear, in which Crichton builds a fantasy world where global warming is not a real threat, but global warming scientists are."

Indeed - this is a global issue and needs a global solution. Current proposals are that carbon caps should be placed according to the amount of emissions produced per head of capita, but with an addition to the formula depending upon the histroric emissions of the nations as well. Western nations are the major contributors to current levels, and therefore the proposals tabled is that they should be penalised more heavily.

We could spend all day linking stuff and providing quotes and the like. The thing about Crichton's book is that it isn't just a novel, it has a massive bibliography at the back and has footnotes referring the reader to the sources of the various claims made in the book. Of course it's ultimately a story, but it throws up some interesting angles.

Tell me, SYB, do you offset your carbon footprint? Are you carbon neutral?

The UAE is one of the worst in the world (per head) for energy consumption and greenhouse gases. What amazes me is the complete lack of solar power usage in this part of the world.
