RBS safe as..... er........ houses..........
I would not be surprised to see some advance consolidation - eg RBS merging with Barclays or whoever BEFORE it becomes a 'rescue' (which one would be rescuing which one?).
BTW - Sky News just revealed that the newly-merged LTSBHBOS (?) will have 38 million customers............ que? What's the population of the UK?? (Neither bank has extensive operations outside the UK). Bizarre statistic.

Bizzare, very different different corperate cultures.
Telegraph:
The FSA think banning short selling will financials will help somehow? I'd say thats likely to bring more price fluctuations if implemented? If any company announces results that are worse than expected the shareprice is just going to fall through the floor because there will be no buyers for any price stabalisation . Just what we need! Can no one in the city remember how markets actually work?
Warning: The value of your shares may go down as well as sideways...
Edit: No changes in position to report, still got my cash stuffed into my mattress.
Telegraph:
The global credit system almost grinds to a halt as yields on US Treasury bills reach zero for the first time since the Great Depression, writes Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
The global credit system came close to total seizure yesterday. Key parts of the derivatives market shut down and a panic flight to safety depressed the yield on three-month US Treasury bills to almost zero for the first since the Great Depression in 1934.

its quite amusing reading about the 3 Geman bank executives who allowed a transfer of 500million Euro's to Lehman Brothers after they had already been declared bankrupt! ooooops!
