I'll get my Zimmer frame....
But they don't half make a great noise on a V8!

Particularly, as in my case with an ancient Range Rover, the rear silencer has 'fallen off'.....!

Jeeezus points, I remember my old man 'setting' the points on a mark 1 escort. It involved a lot of swearing.

Anyhow can be replaced with an electronic unit so at least removing that problem

Tell me about it. That was a real pain in the arse to diagnose. I pulled the bloody heap behind a Pajero to try and bump-start it. Might just as well've asked it nicely for all the good it did. Finally got some advice off a Rangey forum.

My first car was a renault 4 van with the funny gearstick, it stopped on the road one day under these circumstances.
Duct tape rescued me and also created a nice smouldering smell that came in through the air vents.

I have one of those electric things (petronix) - doesn't fit. I took them apart only to discover it didn't fit. Emailed petronix pics of my baby: they don't make one that fits.

Back to reassembling it. I filled it with WD40 and presto - it worked. I was amazed as I took it apart with no consideration of ever having to put all that stuff back in.

I loved my old SWB Patrol Safari. It was an '83, with a 4 speed box. Made the same (deafening) noise whether you were doing 60 km/h or 140 km/h...
