Ladies of Afghanistan

I hope stories like this aren't going to be allowed simply to fade from memory - and if the only source of information is going to be Time magazine, that will be very depressing indeed.......

"The problems in Afghanistan are so vast; it’s hard to know where to even start. Is it with justice? With protecting human rights? Women’s rights? Security?"

The situation is so depressing. Personally, I'd liked to see the taliban wiped off the face of the earth. So much hate and fear of women. Have you seen the film Khandahar? It's quite old but left a distinct impression on me. I'm not sure if this is true, but in the film the doctor has to travel with a man and his burka'd wives - in the v/o she says that there is no word for "woman" in
his language - they are called "black heads." I found that so... Hopeless.

I once shared a room (on a yoga holiday) with a woman who was the BBC reporter/producer in Afghanistan before 9/11. She was seriously screwed up by what she witnessed there day in day out. She was threatened, felt up, harassed, bullied. But she said that was nothing compared to what every other woman had to go through.
