I doubt what we have would meet the technical specifications of pink slime.

My nearest western fast-food outlet is 100km away. Sometimes, just sometimes, I could really do with a Triple Whopper...

I'd rather get meat from a local butchers where I know the food chain involved - that's a bit tricky here though.
Hopefully within a few decades they will be able to grow anything they like that will be nature identical - then there will be no need to slaughter animals for meat on the scale we do it now. Am sure we'd keep some herds alive as back up and because if we didn't we'd have to wipe them out or leave them to fend in the wild where they would be slaughtered as well - six thousand plus years of domestication hasn't done them any favours for survival.

The potential to save on land is amazing, we'd be able to reverse a lot of environmental damage and let more areas grow wild.

If we could somehow grab most of the methane expelled by cows...

I undersstand the arguments for and the potential benefits, but I'm not a massive meat eater anyway and the thought of it being grown just makes me go 'ewwww".

I don't see the difference, isn't everything grown anyway?

You're just swapping a battery hen for a pipette and a petri dish.

A bit like artificial insemination I guess.

It's a bit too 'Brave New World' and not natural. I'm generally fussy about meat and prefer to eat less of it, but of higher quality, i.e. organic and not intensively farmed where possible.

The artificiality of it is not appestising to me. I ought to be vegetarian (again) as I couldn't kill something and eat it.

I dont think there is a need to create more frankenfoods than we already have.
Can we realistically (and nutritiously) feed 7+ billion people ?

I think so - especially with the amount of food and the quantities that is wasted annually by a household is too high. I used to throw away a lot of food as i ate out or it had been in the fridge for 3 days (now i shop on the day that i know i am going to eat on the day).

I think with the recent recession a lot of families have made cut backs in terms of type/quality of foods.

Personally im still putting my money on how do the 7+ billion move around locally and internationally !

If this continues we'll be replacing lost and damaged organs and limbs with nature identical lab grown ones anyway. Growing food this way is entirely logical.
