KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
Al Waleed gets $2 billion funding to build Jeddah Tower. It will surpass the Burj by several hundred feet. Will be 1 kilometer heigh.
Is this going to be a white elephant? Are they going to find enough people to buy the apartments? Unlike the Burg, foreigners aren't going to flock to KSA to buy property. So it's going to be locals only. Don't locals prefer villas? World's biggest tower gets the go ahead: Saudi developer secures funds to complete Jeddah City 3,280ft skyscraper | Daily Mail Online |
Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
Hmmm I can't see many people going on holiday to Saudi Arabia if I'm honest in order to visit the building like they do they Burj in Dubai. Agree that the apartments won't get let out either as fast. Don't get me wrong it will no doubt be spectacular (if they finish it!)

Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
The project is motoring along nicely. The extra cash isn't properly designated yet - they'll be working out what to do with it next week. Might increase resources and the pace of the tower construction, might start the surrounding district work.
It'll be a huge white elephant, they might sell all the apartments and stuff but us mere mortals will never get to see it (unless invited or we convert). |
Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
And the phallic 1-upmanship continues.
Al Waleed telling Dubai their Phallus is not as big his his is going to be. Lol someone rich enough should serioulsy make a building that is not as tall but has more girth than Burj or Jeddah tower  |
Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
I drove past it recently and they do seem to be cracking on with it...not sure why.

Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
Isn't Jeddah on a fault line?

Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
Any inside word on Jeddah Metro progress/prospects?

Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
It'll be a holiday home for those doing the Hajj, 2nd homes for rich Saudis, and plush offices for marketing and construction teams.

Re: KSA: Tallest skyscraper gets funding
In my lifetime I have seen Jeddah grow from a small town of 50,000 in 1970, when I first went to work there, to a Megacity today.
Go and have a look I think you would be surprised. No tourist visas but you can go on Umrah or Haj ! Conversions arranged ! |

Sewers have not been invented yet. In the hills above the city is a lake which is used to dump most of the s h I t produced in the city. But the city does have charms. There is also a nice line in public executions which appeal to a certain type of expat.
