We are reluctant to work or tender on anything they are involved in to be honest.
Them and DAR Al Handasah are two we actively avoid.
I think I remember the firm you work for.

Fair enough, not all businesses like te way others handle their shit.

Will be an interesting one to watch. Shame it's in KSA but beautiful looking structure.

It detracts from our purpose when we are involved in heavily contractual jobs, we are there to construct or design or whatever, not send shit to each other about clause 15 subsection 12, point 2 etc.
its just building a case for a subsequent court appearance or as leverage for a big discount at the end.

its ok I have no problem with their recruitment side just the rest

Drove up to the site when I was last in Jeddah. Not much around. Blank canvas one could say but whack a 1km tower up and watch the surrounding land value shoot up a la Downtown Dubai (is the plan, whether or not it works in KSA is another thing)

So are there enough people/businesses to buy/lease the apartments or is it going to be a white elephant?

If you build it, they will come.

Wait, haven't we heard this before?

As long as some of the money British firms who are involved gets back to the UK economy that's not a bad thing.

It seems to me that all the contractual talk is a waste of time. Both parties come to the table with a big pile of paper at the end of the job when they horse-trade over coffee and dates.. The one with the biggest pile wins,

Its the time spent generating the pile of paper is the issue, it detracts from the focus of the project team which should be to build the bloody thing. A task hard enough to co-ordinate without having to engage in contractual letter writing.

Anyhow I wonder will it get built, we are fast approaching tower of babel shit in KSA. Wonder why they picked Kingdom tower as there is one Kingdom tower in Riyadh already. (the big Eye of Mordor looking thing).

Worth saying that the family renounced him. Also worth saying that it is not easy to avoid dealing with a Bin Laden group company in many lines of business. In fact just this morning I am on my way to kick off a factory test with one of my subcontractors who is in fact a Bin Laden group company and we are not even talking construction here.
