Having had some of my team recently visit KSA (including some females) they gave some interesting feedback. Certainly seems things are changing there for women (for the better), it'll be an interesting few years/decades ahead I think. Obviously it isn't exactly a holiday destination but small steps are moving in the right direction.
For such a closed country I think you have to take everything you hear with a pinch of salt if you haven't been there to judge for yourself.

Ive been all over Saudi and in and out of it for years and it is a pure rotten shithole . Yes you can live ok there but you're only there for money and money only and you make do with the cards you have whilst residing there.

Saudi is what you make of it. If you want to live "light" for a while, shopping, socializing, parties, luxury, then Saudi is ok (if you have a decent salary and live in a Western compound).
What you CAN NOT do in Saudi is to dig deep...if you even so much as scratch the surface, you will be consumed by utter disbelief and hatred.
But then again, that is pretty much the case all over the ME.
