Default Kindle books

Thanks to a reasonably-decent bloke wot I know, I now have a Kindle. Two questions:

1 What have you read recently that you'd recommend? I particularly like Graham Greene, Paul Theroux, Yukio Mishima and Bill Bryson, so nothing from them but along their lines. (And I've already downloaded a few free classics.)

2 I've registered the Kindle with my UK Amazon account--is there a cheaper way to buy?

Thanks

Please explain what a kindle is and why we should all have one. Personally I've never heard of the term except where lighting fires is concerned.

'State of Emergency' and 'Seasons In The Sun' by Dominic Sandbrook, histories about the U.K. 1970-1979 were enjoyable reads.

Couple of ideas...

1Q84 Parts 1,2 & 3 - Haruki Murakami (and many others, but I'm sure with your background you might have read them)
Scandinavian thrillers by Jo Nesmo, Arnaldur Indridason and Henning Mankell

I'm with Amazon UK - don't think there is another option is there? Unless you have a US credit card?

I just finished HG Wells' War of the Worlds - I generally find "classics" tiresome but thought WotW was a really good read.

Also, download Calibre. It can then scrape websites for you (e.g. the Economist, Forbes, BBC News etc) and email the results to your Kindle, which is nice.

Yeah, get Calibre, mentioned above...with that, you can get books else where and convert them for the Kindle.

Also quite nice to grab news articles or what not from websites via their RSS feeds and it converts them to news stories for you quite nicely.

It is possible to have a US and UK amazon account on a UAE credit card. Kindle will only register to one of those accounts though.

I'm also sure you can simply log into the US amazon using your UK credentials.
