Keeping the car running when getting petrol

Re: Keeping the car running when getting petrol
Old people too, with polyester clothing, getting back into their cars in winter.
It's the reason in Mass, that the little toggle on the pump is removed, so you can't just leave the pump unattended to keep it pumping...so people just put their fuel caps in the pump handle instead and wait till it over flows

Back on subject I worked in a petrol station as a student and we were told mobile phones are a potential hazard more because people would be distracted by them than their actual use.
It's more a case of being over careful in an environment that has more explosive power than most world war II tank munitions. It just makes sense to keep flames and sparks away from hundreds of litres of explosive liquid.

Re: Keeping the car running when getting petrol
I accidentally did this the other day (and, you will note, did not die). Of all the places, i would have thought that this would be the most dangerous, what with the heat causing the expansion of the gas and fumes.
Has anyone had a car blow up when refueling when
a) leaving the engine running or
b) using a mobile?

Saudi guy at the petrol pump opposite me last week had his engine running, was on the phone and had his window down smoking a fag - so not only does it look like it's practically impossible to blow up a petrol station these days, he also disproved the urban myth that men can't multi-task.
