Just got a text...

Re: Just got a text...
This is a scam- beware! You get a missed call because it doesn't actually ring- the mass-calling software hangs up before your phone rings. We are all inquisitive right? So we call back to see who it is and we get a massive per minute calling rate.
I haven't had any but I know it is quite public in Oman that this is happening.

Yeah but even if you dial 050 it is fixed on 30fils, that line can't be transfered to a chargable amount. The only numbers in UAE where there is premium on it is the 600 and 1xx.. numbers

Not sure about that, but there is a 00371 number which I have been warned to avoid calling back. It calls me about once or twicea week at random times and rings just once.

Tiger- the number which calls you isn't an 050 number or a UAE number, it is an odd code which is obviously international. Every expat fears the 2am missed call from overseas and will usually call back to see who it was!

Yeah sure everyone does but common sense please. I get miss calls from all around the world, as I'm always on duty. Regardless, I will check the dialing code before I dial it. usually from my notebook or the net. And surely if its family or friends in trouble. You will always know about it before hand, and its usually a +44 number
