Petra as Amman is just another big Arab speaking city.

Re: Jordon
Planning on visiting ourselves next month. How long to drive from the Red Sea to Petra? Is the hotel suitable for a 5yo and bebe. Can we just organise a driver from the hotel and go there and back in a day? (Yeah yeah, american tourist syndrome)

I was there last month - best place is to go to is Tala Bay (about 6km from Aqaba)- very secluded, great hotels (there is the Marina where we stay, Radissan and Marriot) and its tax free zone !!!
Its about 1 hour away from Petra, 30 mins from Wadi Rum and 1.5 hrs from Ma'in (do not get mixed up and end up in Ma'an!!)

Movenpick at the Dead Sea is good for kids. Petra is great to visit as well, but get there around 7am because by about 10am it is overly crowded as all the day trip coaches arrive. It took us around 3 hours to drive from the Dead Sea to Petra.
