Default Job offer mind change?

Oh bugger. Why does this happen?

I'm supposed to be on a plane on Monday, but my current employers have potentially got another position for me somewhere else in the ME with better rotations and similar money. Why couldn't they have done this 2 weeks, even a week ago?

Question is, if I said to the new company that I've changed my mind, am I under any legal obligation to them?

Obligated, enforceable, reputation.
Take your pick you wouldnt be the first and won't be the last if you changed your mind though

So I could have to go and work for them for the stated notice period?

Reputation...I can live with that. You don't work in my game for over 20 years without pissing a few people off.

The thing is, I didn't actively seek this one, they came to me with it. Other people have been actively encouraging me to keep looking for something better.

Sorrywasnt clear what I meant.
You may or may not be obligated, if you are is it enforceable anyway if not its pretty much down to pissing people off and your reputation. I'd give current company a 24 hr deadline. Offer up or I'm on a plane on Monday kind of thing I'd also err on the side of if your thinking twice it's probably wrong anyway

I'v dropped one or two over the years at the last minute , i wouldn't have thought you'd be under any legal obligation and you couldn't enforce it any case.

Do what's right for you end of , we've all had a taste of when the boots on the other foot.....

Very questionable as to whether you have any legal liability because your employment hasn't actually started; no contracts of employment are "enforceable" (ie by pursuing an action for specific performance), their claim would be for damages. If they're a UK company then a polite letter will probably suffice, but make sure you get it in before your start date.

And remember that few companies have any compunction about shedding staff if its in their financial interests to do so. The boot's on the other foot this time.

Good luck.
