Default iTunes: non-VPN connectivity

When at work using my company's VPN, Mozilla Firefox won't connect to the 'net but Internet Explorer will. At home the opposite is true. Not particularly an issue.

However (and I'm not sure if this is linked to the foregoing), iTunes will connect to the Store when I'm in the office, but not when I'm at home. Can't find any settings which seem to touch on this.

Any ideas?

Company firewall (proxy) is configured on Internet Explorer hence it works in the office. Not configured on Firefox hence it doesn't work in the office.

At home the proxy doesn't exist so Internet Explorer doesn't work, but Firefox works as it uses the default settings. iTunes uses Internet Explorer proxy settings hence it works in office, but not at home...

Simplez....

Right, that explains the problem in more detail...

Is there a solution?

Add the proxy settings to firefox so you can use it in the office (find them in Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections tab - LAN settings button). In firefox it is in settings somewhere, but can't remember exactly where.

To use Firefox at home you'll need to disable the proxy, and to use Internet Explorer or iTunes you'll need to do the same.

I think there is possibly some shareware out there which allows you to control all proxy settings on your computer from within one application, you'll have to google it though...

Have a look at this little tool. Looks like it supports Firefox, Internet Explorer and more and lets you switch proxy settings on the fly...

Unfortunately the developers website seems to be blocked (here in Bahrain anyway) - http://www.proxyswitcher.com/
