Unfortunately, most people in Glasgow agree with you...they wear a badge of honour (a bit like ASBOs) and will continue to have about 8 out of 10 of the most deprived areas in the UK. Shame in a way, as post-independence they can again vote for their favourite political party (guess who?) that their parents and grandparents also voted for, except in a much wealthier country where the continuum of poverty will have been broken.

Same 'independence' that is enjoyed by the "UK-but-still-in-the-EU" at the moment. Is there a difference?

PS Nothing to do with 'breaking away from England" we will both still be in the EU...just better neighbours.

Well my 'get out of the EU' tendencies are well documented on here. I just don't see the point of 'independence' unless you leave the EU as well - which as a newly-formed nation state you probably could (and should).

the idea (or dream) of an independant Scotland is a fantastic thing, however i have to go with Hun Stu, on this, i wouldn't vote for those idiots at SNP either. It's a dream and nowhere near feasible. Indepentant from EU, not sure at present. Ideally yes, but im still trying to work out the practicalities and how they would integrate with how we already work.

A Scotland ruled by mindless bureaucrats in Holyrood isn't going to be any different than a Scotland ruled by mindless bureaucrats in London. If anything it'll probably be worse. Scotland is not New Labour. It's not Ireland. It's old, and I put the emphasis on the old, Labour. Statists. Unions. Cold blooded Presbyterians.

So the Scottish Independence from the UK thing is just a microcosm of the UK independence from the EU thing. We should lock Alex Salmond and Nigel Farage in a room together.
