well yeah, but then it's played bloody continually in shops, supermarkets, on the radio from about september to december, lol...i don't know, i just know ppl have worked very hard at making their collections accurate, because they are serving both the record companies and the performers alike...the organisation i worked for used to work closely with ppl and their equivalents across the world, so i do know something about it!
MM, xx
MM, xx
I also know/knew ppl who worked from em and most ppl are very supportive
of the concept don't you find? However as you say it's very easy for certain events to slip under the radar and therefore compromise the real figures.
Personally, I wouldha thought the mind numbing 'Bridge of Troubled Waters' would have been on there.........

There used to be that irritating statistic that "Mandy" by Barry Manilow was, at any given time, being played on a radio station somewhere in the world...........

Both Whiter Shade Of Pale and Bohemian Rhapsody have the word "fandango" in the lyrics..........
So that's how to get your record played..............

The PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) and PRS (Performing Rights Society) in the UK and BMI / ASCAP in the USA allocate royalties (i.e. payments) owed to PPL = record companies and performers and PRS publishers and writers.
Most large organisations report accurately their play lists - including radio stations, TV stations, large venues, all gigs etc and then overall licensee fees / revenues should be distributed based on this... all other revenue sources are distributed on a sliding scale (unfair if you ask me...)
Therefore the actual times the song has been played would be correct unless you account for user played tracks like CD plays in stores etc...
So if most heard track equates to most played then maybe...
(PS - MM should be the authority here me thinks...)
