It's the 'Boat Race Disruption Thread'......

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...is-oar-in.html

So a protester swims into the path of the Oxford and Cambridge rowing boats, thus bringing the event to a complete halt......... when asked 'why?' he says 'it's all on my blog'.........

So - off to http://elitismleadstotyranny.squarespace.com/ to see a rambling collection of non-sequiturs and spelling mistakes......... this is a job for Norm or Ethos.........

[PS - I notice his copyright jobby at the end has his own name spelt wrong.......]

I especially like this suggestion;

" Are there networking events designed for the elites and their sympathisers where you could let off a stink bomb? "

He seems like a very confused man. The fact he has had a half-decent education, has access to the internet and lives in a country that does not immediately jail people for such actions makes him elite to much of the world.

I gave up on his blog after a couple of paragraphs. He has had his five minute of fame, so can go away now.

Eighteen stinky students arrested on suspicion of causing alarm and despondency to a poor chap trying to have a quiet swim in the river......;)

I've always liked the tradition of the winning eight dipping their cox into the river afterwards.........

Yaaay! Perhaps the BBC would like to stop spending our money televising this absolute pile of wank year after year.

It's just for a few hours on one day a year. I quite like the tradition of it.

I'd rather they stopped showing golf or athletics.

Most of the Beeb are 'Oxbridge Elite' so his elitist theory may have some meaning after all .

Jobs for the boys ... chin chin !

What tradition? Tradition that 1% of the population is involved in?

If it's just a few hours per year, surely leaving it out altogether wouldn't matter much?

I find it all sickening. Just like the phoney strawberries and ice cream, at Wimbledon, the stupid hats at Ascot, the Grand National, etc etc. It's not just a few hours now is it?

BTW I would totally agree with the removal of golf from TV.

Hey kittycat,

Don't forget the Stroke - used to sit near the Cox. As his name implies he sets the stroke rate for the rest of the crew!

the cox and the stroke... smutty snigger

Re: It's the 'Boat Race Disruption Thread'......

smutty snigger indeed ...

the cox sets the course but the stroke determines how best to achieve the ultimate result which is, of course, satisfaction for all concerned.

I started to get confused when the expression 'female cox' became increasingly common............

Do you remember 'Windsurfers do it standing up' and all the alternative versions that suddenly sprang up? Susan Brown, Oxford's first female cox, had one all to herself:

'Susan Brown did it with eight big strong men in just under twenty minutes'.

I watched the re-run on OSN last night. Quite enjoyed it. Decent bit of drama and some nice views of my fave city.

Yes they are all elitist twits but tradition is good imo. Harmless. Also the right to protest is good but the organisers of the Olympics must be a little concerned. I'm amazed how one dimensional some of them are when interviewed. I was thinking how have these 'chaps' got into Oxbridge. Do they get scholarships if they are good rowers?

One had been there for 10 years. Bachelor, Masters, PhD, oh lets just keep him as he can row.

Thought the ref had a good game too. Didn't take any shit from the Oxford doris.

Ban those too. Football is not much more than a soap opera with less testosterone in it than Eastenders.

6 ft of muscle? I pity those puny weaklings (shaking the seawater out of his shorts while cradling the rescued baby seal ).

Funny how no one mentions the rugby team...They really are a bunch of thickos. All brought in on one year courses doing Cambridge's finest degree in Land Economy. They even (pretty much) had their own college - St. Edmunds. Far enough out of the city to keep them from beating up the locals.

As for the rowers, yes some are sponsored but not all - but they also tend to be a little less stupid than the Rugby team. Why is that such a big deal anyway? I was also sponsored (albeit by private industry) and I would never fit any elitist stereotype.

True, although as soon as I open my mouth it is assumed I'm trying to sell a used car.

Oi!! Were not all like that. Have you tried wearing a sheepskin in this weather??

I just slick my hair back, bathe in cheap aftershave and wear velvet loafers here.

If not, they could always clear the area with the missiles they will be placing on the thames. Nothing to see here...nothing at all.

If there's one place I'm not going, it's the London Olympics..not that any of us would have gotten tickets anyway..who have they actually been given to?
