Islam & comedy

Despite it looking as if so many Muslims have no sense of humour, especially with the latest events, here's a nice little piece on the subject from The Economist.

Strange that the article was printed 10 months ago! I did snigger at this comment from one reader;

"I don't understand why the author of this is saying Muslims don't have a sense of humor. The Prophet Muhammad himself made jokes, which shows that his followers should also have a sense of humor and not be solely about being die-hard followers."

Personally, I would love to read the Prophet's Joke Book. Must be one of the shortest books on the shelf.:rofl:

By the way, I got to ask; why does Islam stipulate that men must show their ankles?

There is (was?) a guy in Bahrain called Nader Shaheen (he worked for one of the banks) who did stand-up, after-dinner speaking, etc. He performed at the Edinburgh Fringe a couple of times - his routine was basically an appeal for religious tolerance etc, but spoken in a comedy context. He wore a thobe on stage etc etc.

And what about that Omid Djalili (sp?) - he's quite funny when the mood takes him.

Omid Djalili isn't a Muslim.

He's a follower of the Baha'i faith. Info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bah%C3%A1%27%C3%AD_Faith
