Default Iran & Star Trek

The Iranian Ambassador to the UN had just finished giving a speech and walked out into the lobby of the convention center where he met U.S. General Patraeus.

They shook hands. As they walked the Iranian said, "You know, I have just one question about what I have seen in America."

The General said, "Well, anything I can do to help you, I will."

The Iranian whispered, "My son watches this show called Star Trek and in it there is Chekhov who is Russian, Scotty who is Scottish, Uhura who is Black and Sulu who is Japanese, but no Muslims. My son is very upset and doesn't understand why there aren't any Iranians, Iraqis, Afghans, Syrians or Pakistanis on Star Trek."

The General laughed, leaned toward the Iranian ambassador, and whispered back, "That's because it takes place in the future".

And, if they would have been there, the whole show would have become a PC disaster and be cancelled...or the Enterprise would have been bombed...and not by aliens.

There was an half-Arab doctor - Julian Bashir, in Deep Space Nine. He seemed about as Islamic as I am though.

I won't say anymore now as I've pretty much confirmed my status as a qualified nerd.

Never liked StarTrek and can not for the life of me figure out what all the fuss is about. To me it's like a Soap Opera or Dancing with the Stars, a show that people watch cause they are supposed to watch and like it.

I have no idea - I like a lot of sci-fi but never got into the fanboy and going to conventions thing...that would take up time needed for drinking and womanising.

I never knew people are supposed to watch anything. Isn't the idea that TV and film companies make a variety of things to cater to all tastes?

A good half of the Trek TV shows were garbage, especially in the next Gen and Deep Space Nine - not half the consistency of quality that the remade Galactica or even the low budget Babylon 5 had. Same with all genres, there's crap and there's the good stuff I suppose.
