Default Iran - Growing view that strike, by Israel or US, will happen

Playing the game or actually spelling out the plan?

Fun, fun, fun....

"Officials in key parts of the Obama administration are increasingly convinced that sanctions will not deter Tehran from pursuing its nuclear programme, and believe that the US will be left with no option but to launch an attack on Iran or watch Israel do so."

'Sweet spot' for Israeli action identified as September-October....

Sept-Oct....just right before the US presidential elections. No coincidence at all, none at all....

Petrol/Diesel should go through the roof, which will make everything else go up.

From the linked article...:

"There is a school of thought – a suspicion, even – within the administration that Netanyahu might consider the height of the US election campaign the ideal time to attack Iran. With a hawkish Republican candidate ever ready to accuse him of weakness, Obama's room to pressure or oppose Netanyahu would be more limited than after the election."

The drums of war are beating hard and fast, come hell or high water the NeoCons will get their war. The Gulf Arabs are also itching to overthrown Shia Iran and Shia Allawite Syria and replace the latter with a Sunni pro Saudi Regime.
Western Media , particularly in America, will play along and sell the war to public, just like with Iraq.

Unlike Iraq though the west seem to have little inclination to send ground troops, which could be better or a lot lot worse

Someone made the interesting point that there quite a few battle-hardened troops still in Afghanistan.

Very true but it's a very different proposition from fighting the Taliban
Who without a trace of irony we seem to be about to hand Afghanistan back!.

I say drop dollars, great big ****ing plane loads of dollar notes, heck it would probably be cheaper than bombs and would collapse the government faster

Conservative grass roots can't stand Mitt Romney, because Romney is seen as the quintesential RINO (Republican In Name Only) and just Obama lite. RomneyCare , the universal health care he passed as Governor of MA was the blueprint for ObamaCare. The latter ellicts a lot of opposition from conservatives.

So the GOP grassroots has latched on to every hard right dog whistling candidate soo far , from Bachmann to Mr 999 and then Gingrich.

Sarah Palin is still a GOP grass roots favourite even if the snooty country club conservative inteligentsia would rather she quietly go away.

They should just nominate Rush Limbaugh and be done with it

All in all , Obama , Romney or Gingrich are all beholden to WallStreet , the Big Banks and the pro war crowd. Only real difference is that Obama is somewhat more reticent to jump head first into a war while the GOP candidates can't beat the war drums hard enough.

Where's Regan when you need him? The Republicans really need to sort their house out and field some decent candidates. Obama's not as wonderful as everyone things he is - he simply has no credible opposition.

And you're right about them all being pro-wall street. Corporatism, not capitalism is crippling politics and the long term economy. Being pro-war is a different issue - I'm not a pacifist and don't think the Neville Chamberlain method of diplomacy against states that openly and repeatedly declare their aim is the destruction of the west and it's allies is going to work. The question is how much force is needed and how soon.

All politics is force - anyone who disagrees doesn't understand how the world (or humanity) works.

I always find it amusing how there is only one solution to how the work should, could and forever will work...

Remember who said this?

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."
