Unless they can prove both were involved, then I guess they will be let off as they won't be able to confirm "beyond a reasonable" doubt which one was the guilty one.

Bollocks to that. If its a guilty verdict, they should each do half the sentence. That'd be justice. Rough, but justice nonetheless.

Remember it's the UK Justice system though. I think BC's suggestion would be a better verdict but can't see it happening.

Ah, hadn't actually read that--yes, much better solution. If the guilty one doesn't have the decency to confess, or the innocent one can't exert sufficient moral guidance on the other, then I say let them burn. Just for once the justice system needs to do something different. (Only just this once, mind--or maybe they could have a wildcard to play once every, say, 3 years--no appeals, no interference from those foreigners holding our reins: wham, bang, down you go. Hamza would've been gone in a jiffy, saving us millions of pounds and saving us all the embarrassment of agreeing with the Daily ****ing Mail.)
