to those who have an iPhone - does your iMessage work?

Re: iMessage

Define 'work'.

Texting, yes, voice or video calling, no.
Qatar has now joined the ban em all list.

With a vpn everything works.

i'm referring to when you 'text'/sms someone - previously if you text someone and they also had an iphone then the messages would appear in blue and hence it was sent/rec'd as an imessage and therefore free.
Now that 'feature' has disappeared.

Re: iMessage

You might need to check it's turned on. Or rather that it hasn't been turned off.

Check Settings -> Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on.

People without WhatsApp.

We're renting out the spare room in our flat and a surprising % of respondents don't have WhatsApp and text instead. It's a good way of filtering out the chaff ;)

I use whatsapp for personal stuff, texts for work stuff generally. But I reckon I send 1-3 SMS a month. Tops.

Re: iMessage

WhatsApp, LINE, Viber, Facetime usually only for video but then only as a backup to LINE and WhatsApp.

Re: iMessage

If you look carefully at the settings you will see that you can also opt to send messages as an SMS (text) when there is no wi-fi available. Quite handy.

I have a few friends who still insist on talking to me only via imessage, despite them having whatsapp and the only reason I can think of is that they have Mac OS and its easier for them to imessage through that. I just like the draw function in it and have become quite an expert in drawing male / female appendages in less than 10 seconds.
