He's a decent chap. Drinks in Fibbers regularly and can be found at every gig at the IV. He does like a drink or six.

He may not have been the world's greatest footballer, but he's hardly a failure.

I agree with Meow, he is hardly a failure.

A failure is a player who had the potential to be one of the greatest but pissed it up against the wall..

Plenty of them in Scotland

CP played for England and fufilled every english schoolboys dream

So someone has a skinful, and makes a nuisance of himself the next morning at the police station.

While they are usually happy to turn a blind eye to the thousands of people drinking at dozens of places every week, they decide to invoke an obscure law and charge this guy.

Sounds good to me.

I take the police version of events this time.

Agreed. How can you be a "failed international" anyway - what kind of bollocks is that? He made the most of his talents and had a successful career, 90% of it in the top flight. He's a nice chap who is happy to laugh at himself a bit. Fair play to him I reckon.....

Here we all go. jumping on nothing. How about I change 'failed' to 'washed up'. we are all good on that one, yes?

Personally, I don't see how being skint at the end of an international career and ripping someone off is a success but there we go. Although this is really more of a function of my contempt for 'celebrity sports people'. They are put on a pedestal when the reality is that they have done virtually nothing.

"failed international" is a contradiction in terms surely ? He was nee Zinedine Zidane but he played enough games at the very top to prove he had something.

Had a chat with him one night and seemed a really nice fella, I was less impressed by his team talk to one of his school teams ( age 7-8) about how their performance was unacceptable and he wasn't going to put up with it. DESS beat Repton 3-0

Where did you get that from? What did he allegedly do at the Police Station to justify the charges and would anybody else have behaved differently?

Indeed, we have a few guys in our office who were originally in Dubai but relocated to Abu Dhabi...all have Dubai visas for at least another two years and none have been able to get an AD booze license yet.

Crap system - visas should be on a federal level and licenses should be issued solely on the basis of where you live not where your paperwork was done.

He did well as a career, wasn't great but was decent enough.

Not good enough for England but there you go.
