You might have read it, but 'The Damned United' by David Peace is worth reading. Also anything by Mark Thomas is worth a look, as is anything by P.J. O'Rourke.

Seeing Red by Graham Poll - confirms he's an arrogant so and so but some interesting insights.

If you want entertaining and witty, pick up one of Stuart Maconie's books, pareticularly:
Cider with Roadies - about his love of music, time writing in the music press and travelling wth bands
Pies and Prejudice - a witty view of life in the North & differences to the South
Everyone I have given copies to has loved them. He's a lovely chap and the best thing to have come from Wigan.

I second the Stuart Marconie recommendation. Also:
BRIXMIS Tony Gerrahty
Raw Spirit Iain Banks
On Roads Joe Moran
Jarhead Anthony Swofford (forget the film-book is much better)
Dispatches Michael Herr
Dreaming of Jupiter Ted Simon

Re: I haven't read a book in months now....
Hi to all,
I'm a new poster but not new to the bored or the region - been an avid spectator for +12 months. Oh, I am in Riyadh btw.
thought it only fair as a newby to offer a response before I request some advice of my own - a little bored etiquette...if you like.
Recently read :
Bronson aka Charles Bronson the phycso. old book and once you read about one jail spell its much the same but an interesting insight into the mind of a nutter.
Michael Caine 2nd (or 3rd ?) autobiog - nice read, nice guy, enjoy his story telling and humility.
Stephen Fry 2nd autobiog - lethargic to read, lots of unnecassary & ridiculous long words cos he's a cambridge grad and a luvvy. So far unfinished and currently sits on the cistern for those private moments.
oh...and a copy saudi labor law.......also sits on the cistern in 3" squares. well I am scottish.
ciao..

Hi goonerseba
My husband has just read the latest Michael Caine autobiography. He enjoyed it so much that he kept reading out passages to me. Rather annoying, but I've heard so much that I've no need to read the book myself now
I like Stephen Fry's writing, but it's the luvviness that irritates.

last one read:-
Dead Man's Grip by Peter James - think a Brighton version of Spender. Lots of references to Brighton landmarks which struck a chord (OK far too many references to Brighton landmarks)...but also a good read.
also got Damned United author David Peace's 1980 so will tuck into that next.
