In Dubai, I’m rapidly approaching the point where I won’t interact with any company where I have to talk to them as that’s where it normally goes wrong. Food, transport, bill payment, water (thanks MH), banking etc.

Amen to that.

'Dubai Now' app is a god send for all bills and things.

Only use it for my lunch (cash only in our canteen) and leaving tips in restaurants because I don't trust anyone to actually pass credit card tips onto the waiting staff.

The sooner everywhere goes cashless, the sooner you get rid of the hassle of trying to split a 500 Dhs note.

When Mrs hnd was having chemo and follow-up maintenance treatment at the University Hospital here all payments had to be made in cash as they didn’t accept either CCs or cheques. The bank got used to me withdrawing the equivalent of AED40,000 on a fairly regular basis! (Thank God for decent health insurance.)This system continued until February this year which we discovered when we were told that we had to pay for her most recent six monthly check up by CC.

We still pay for most things with cash. Taxi drivers don’t like CCs and those who do have CC machines claim that they aren’t working. Most people pay for their petrol with cash.
