How long does it take to build a Mosque
 

I have come to learn that behind my building in Tecom they are building a Mosque- literally behind my building, literally- like you walk out the back door and you trip over a prayer mat. They still seem to be pushing sand about but by the looks of the size of the area they are clearing this is a sizeable building, in fact it may even be nearto Abu Dhabi Mosque size- ish. Now whilst I have no problem with mosques, I actually think they look pretty, I am not a morning person, in fact my lay in at the weekend is a precious indulgence which I do not intend on giving up. being woken and listening to call to prayer on a Friday morning is not really on my indulgence list so I would prefer not to live quite so close to the tanoys!

So my question is, how long does a Mosque take to build? I've recently renewed my contract for 1 more year and am hoping it would not be completed within that time?

Or do I need to go out and buy earplugs?

Going by how long its taking them to complete the new Mosques in the Marina you would be OK even if you had renewed for 2 years. :thumbup:

The bigger it is the longer it will take to erect.

Extreme case though! Redesigns and disputes all the way......but the end result is stunning :)

I'm sorry madam but you will have to provide more details; such as:

Square footage of Mosque

Height

Number of Minarets

Level of ornateness

Is it kitsch or does the design and ornate work involve master craftsman who specialise in metalsmithing. carving , calligraphy, stone masonry, fine woodworking etc..

Is it going to be all concrete or is there going to be stone (not as a veneer over concrete)

Not your usual mosque though - the Sheikh Zayed Mosque - started in 1996 and completed in 2007 after lots of construction disputes.....

yep it didnt take long to build when we arrived in 96 but then they were the disputes over the marble etc etc etc

Darling.....I have 5 mosques around me and a huge 1 being built by the Emirates bank near the Chelsea hotel which is a 5 minutes walk away from me..allegedly .... The call to prayer doesn't bother me... you will get used to it.

Maybe you need to be more concerned with the construction noise first. Often these things are built well into the night, if not 24 hours. Good luck,

In addition to the early morning call to prayer, you may have to consider parking congestion. It seems an unwritten law here that mosque goers can park their cars anywhere, even in the middle of a service road.

It was one of our projects, well we were one of the many Consultants on it..... I think we did the design of the domes and the structural and MEP supervision.

I didn't think it took that long tho. :eek:
