You are missing the point. It's about quality and not pretending you can afford something that you can't. Shallowness is spending money on a fake.
If you can't afford some fancy label, that's fine, buy the best that you can. You aren't judged on being poor or not being wealthy. You don't have to spend vast sums to be well presented. And I'm not even going to get into everything associated with the fakes such as organised crime, etc.

Whilst I understand your point of quality leather and workmanship ladies, surely the quality of a handbag that costs $1,900 is the same as one costing 20x that.

BC..as I said earlier..it is all relative. Spending a % of your monthly salary on a pair of shoes depends on how much you earn... for somebody earning 1000 pounds a month, saving up for several months and buying a pair of Louboutins for 800 pounds is a big deal. If you earn 10,000 pounds a month you could buy 4 pairs of shoes in a month and not even worry about it.

what is the difference between a $2000 bag and a $38,000 bag except for the proportion of people who can afford it . Does something being unobtainable to all but a few make it more desired for by the many ?

She apologised because she never realised the incident would get soo blown up. When she recounted the incident it was in response to a question posed to her about expereincing racism.
