I wonder how many more 'toll' schemes can they come up with till someone says, hey can we start being original please?

To be fair, this charge is very low by global standards. It's very commonly applied everywhere.

I know this as... I've been responsible for introducing it at two airports (not here though)

Another new toll recently introduced is the 30dhs Ejari cancellation charge. Yes, Ejari is annual and used to expire automatically, but now if you don't cancel the new tenant cannot register..

Absolute PITA! Went to Land Dept on Baniyas, they were totally uninterested, pointed me at a typing centre in the hall. Who were similarly uninterested and said go to their main office in the next building, 2nd floor ggggrrr! Walked out and spotted a small typing office next to a cafe by the multi story carpark. Very helpful guy there as I had neglected to bring the print out of the NOC from the LL. He told me to email it to him and he printed it out. Also necessary are the tenancy contract, ejari, title deed, tenants passport and visa copy, landlords passport and EID copy. You get a text next day saying it has been cancelled.

Other gotchas to watch out for:
DEWA deposit - you can now transfer it to your bank by giving the IBAN number. However it has not yet landed in my account and I'll be closing the bank account soon.
DU - Useless! 3 times I told them to cancel services, only did it 3rd time. Still not had final bill and deposit despite being told 24 hours, even after another reminder call.

Car business is busy at the moment, buying everyones car on the way to the airport. Average transaction price of my cars is probably 50% from what it was, down from 100 to around QR50k. Think the summer will be terrible but things will pick up after then, Insh'allah

Used car values have tanked here which is a good thing and new car sales are around 60% down!

That sounds very true. I bought MrsShed a new car about 3 weeks and to say the sales guys were desperate is an understatement. Talking to guys in the know, the discount I got off a new land cruiser was exceptional.

However, trying to sell her old Beemer 3 is like pulling hens teeth!!!

Even people like me with solid work and a few new tenders under belt aren't buying. I spent a fair amount of time looking at both new and used cars last summer but walked away from it. I'm purposefully renting. Peace of mind. And carpooling shares the expenses so I don't feel like I'm wasting money.

Doesn't sound expensive with the service contract. That said I would be wanting to buy it at 30-35 here and try and get 40 ish.

Ta BE, I've been offered 35 unseen by traders so I'll hang onto 45 for another week and then readjust. I don't need to sell it apart from lack of parking in our building. Maybe I'll try and "borrow" a space and give it another go post summer.

You can always get a trader there and try and talk him up - as against him try and talk you down. Im sure if one of them has someone for it you can get 38 ish.

Did a huge amount of research before buying my used car and these days the magic number for a used 2-5 year old decent car (german/american) saloon is 30-35k tops
If you have been offered 35k I would recommend you fight for 37k and then take it and run
summer is just around the corner and the same dealers will stop offering you 35k by then
I got myself an american imported 2011 hyundai genesis fully loaded luxury sedan 3.6 with only 29k kms on the dial for 32k so yeah, this is a buyers market right now
had the car throughly tested at RTA so the meter wasnt lying and since it already has a GCC presence so I dont have to worry about any parts etc, like I said, I did a LOT of research and bought the car from the owner instead of a dealer.
Now even if i want to dump it at 25k, I can always do that and not loose much.
