People in the western region of Abu Dhabi have already experienced the hottest day ever when the maximum temperature shot up to 53 Celsius a few days ago.

My outdoor thermometer, purchased here so presumably designd to cope with the temperatures, bubbled over last week and is now broken. Does not bode well.

Will the government actually admit to a temperature over 49c though?

Wonder if you'll beat the current world record, held by some place in the south of Libya...56 degrees C, I think.

Edit: Just checked: It was 57.8 recorded in 1922 in Al Aziziyah. Scorchio.

Visited Azziyah, in about 1979 to fix a radio. Wasn't a lot there then as I remember it!!

That temp was measured at an RAF station and there has been questions re it's validity I believe?
