Homework Question for those with Primary School Aged Kids

Re: Homework Question for those with Primary School Aged Kids
I think you should....my kid does not even get homework...unless he can't finish the assignments he gets during the lessons......and that in turn makes him WANT to read at home. Plus use the internet to find out about science, history etc...why? Because he does not HAVE to.

Re: Homework Question for those with Primary School Aged Kids
Can't most 4-year-olds read then? Mine must have been very bright then.........
I have a more serious worry about that homework - do I detect propaganda? There is an increasing amount of evidence that the whole global warming/climate change thing is fundamentally flawed (especially the bit about sea levels rising - they aren't).
Is there an implied 'factual' element to the wording of that question? Very disturbing..........

it must just be me, but i see nowt wrong with that as holiday homework.
My only gripe would be the assumption of fact in the question regarding global warming, were the question to read: state and examine the evidence which suggests or something similar, then i would be happier.

M-easureable
A-greed
R-ealistic
T-imed
This isn't.

I'm on teachie's side - hot house the little buggers. They'll grow up in a waaay more competitive world where their third-world cousins have frog-leaped them in the knowledge economy if you let them languish in front of the X-box all holiday.....
Make 'em work. Mine are up a chiminey as we speak earning their keep whilst reciting the Art of War verbatim - I poke em with a long sharp stick if they get it wrong.
It's not a holiday it's a learning re-enforcement opportunity. Bah.

.....
Science - Study the handout which explains how global warming occurs.
1. Identify how and why the Earth is heating up.
2. Create a T-chart which gives four potential negatives and positives of global warming. Explain how each one would be a negative/positive in detail.
3. Explain how in detail the rise in the world's population has contributed to our pollution issues - half page minimum.
4. In detail explain why water is so important to life. State how we are polluting this valuable resource and give possible solutions to these issues - half page minimum.
5. Write a fictional diary account of having to move to a new home due to flooding as a result of global warming.

Anthropomorphic theories of "global warming" are increasingly being doubted. For example, Japanese Climate Scientist Disagree with Man made global warming theory:

Re: Homework Question for those with Primary School Aged Kids
yes.
as syb points out there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of kids in current third and second world countries doing just this and more. if parents want a spoon fed xbox moron go right ahead, if they want a kid that can get a job in 20 yrs time then get em learning. the UAE has a relatively short school year and long holidays are common, spilt down over the weeks its actually very little work or learning for them to do

'Tis good science to hear all sides of arguments. There was a period when some scientists in the USA were being targeted for their views and not agreeing with the 'consensus' viewpoint...some people even tried to get them the sack at unversities or revoke their degrees !
