I bottled joing the Navy as an Artificer in 2001, think I would have enjoyed it, but now have a job I'm happy with and the perfect wife, so I guess I can't complain.

I used to try rolling down the (concrete) internal staircase at school to see how it would be. I didn't do it too many times.

Following on from an earlier thread, what would you like to have chosen for a career?
I'm still not 100% sure but will let you know when I grow up
One option would be writing of some sort, but I am now lucky enough to have a couple of freelance writing jobs, albeit about personal finance. I'd have prefered something a little more artistic, so maybe a writer of cookbooks, as that encompasses several of my interests - writing, cooking & photography.
You?

If it wasn't for Iraq, would you feel the same? I bottled it twice and re-applied twice before I realised I didn't have the balls for it (not that I would have expected to be involved in conflict, it was the long times away I was worried about - at the same time as wanting to travel - and ending up abroad anyway!)

Why wouldnt you have expected to be involved in conflict as an Artificer? I was in the Navy when we were deployed in hostile operations on 3 seperate conflicts. ("we" being the Navy, not me personally)
i left Faslane in September 2002 and returned in June 2003. Too long to be away.

I wouldn't mind being a belted earl with a stately pile, even if it means eating beans and toast and driving ancient cars in order to pay for the roof repairs.
But sadly that's not going to happen.
I'd settle for having my own successful landscape architecture firm based in a converted barn somewhere in the southwest of England.
