Default High Speed (200kph+) Road proposed

No, not from the Pan Arabia Enquirer, from the head of Dubai Traffic Police no less!

7days

The head of Dubai Traffic Police has suggested making a specially dedicated road in the UAE for cars that want to drive at 200kph.

The force said the luxury highway is just an idea at this stage but a study would be conducted to see how viable it is. The road would be between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah and only those wanting to drive at high-speed could use it.

General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen said: “The idea can become a true reality. Maybe we need a road for motorists with powerful cars who want to drive 200kph. It would also be good for people who drive on a daily basis between UAE cities.”

He added: “There are studies saying that high speeds can’t make accidents unless there are other factors. Accidents can happen when a car driving with 140kph and then surprised with a car in front of it with 60kph.”

Al Zafeen’s suggestion came during the launch of the second year of the white points system which rewards drivers who have not committed any traffic offences during the year for their good behaviour.

He said that the highway would need certain specifications and four lanes in two directions.
But will it be separated from the other lanes by a velvet rope and have flakes of real gold in the tarmac as the PAE suggested a little while back.

Yep, like drivers who haven't undergone proper instruction, who have little concept of responsibility, and who are immature. Building a road, with or without gold flakes, isn't going to eliminate those factors.

All factors found as standard when a Local tries to reach terminal velocity without due care and regard for others. After all a Land Cruiser is just a mechanical camel, flogged to death under apaling conditions then replaced. At least no one has yet to try eating a 'Cruiser, but it probably doesn't taste any worse than camel meat.

As long as they keep that road far away from any other road. Nobody wants to be crushed by a flying cruiser or such.

Never mind a 200kph road, if they are going to do it then it should be unlimited speed like the autobahn.

The powerful cars (and motorbikes) he mentions are well capable of speeds over 300kph.

So 7days have updated the story and.....

Petrolhead Marcus McGrath gave the plan for a high-speed highway the thumbs up. Describing the idea as “awesome”.

The Dubai-based 24-year-old salesman, who owns an Audi R8 sports car said: “I speed anyway. This is a great idea because I can do it in a safer way.”

Car fan McGrath suggested regulations for the road to ensure that both the driver and the car could handle high speeds.

“My R8 at 200kph is capable of stopping quicker and safer than someone in a Nissan Sunny doing half the speed.”
What a total bellend we can only hope he gets his comeuppance though not at the expense of others.

I wonder if the limit would be 220, a strict 200, or 180?

No car in my stable can do those speeds anyway. 190k is the max I've got out of them - the FJ's second airscoop was deafening.

Get yourself a 10 year old suzuki hayabusa, it might cost you a few thousand, and you should see at least 300kph. (depending on your cojones)

In theory, it's a good idea....the Autobahn's are great and people are quite sensible on them.

But they're German's, or other Europeans who are generally, quite sensible.

Make a speed limit massive, or even unlimited here...in Dubai...where regard for self-preservation is low and the idiocy is high, then you'll end up in calamity.

Ah **** it, build it, let them kill themselves, who gives a ****? It'll get shut down soon enough or the limit changed, but in the meantime it keeps the ****ing spastics away from the normal roads...
