So, does this mean that the UAE authorities are happy to open up dialogue then? Other cases have been in the media in the past without any budging. I can't see Norway being a more important trade partner than Oz/UK..? Or am I wrong?

Unlikely - has was jailed for 13 months for drinking alcohol and having consensual sex. I expect he'll be left in jail and it's not as if the woman is going to push for a retrial.
