Hello. I'm new. (Stop sighing.)
Hi, greetings from Auld Reekie. I've been lurking and reading voraciously on here for a couple of days.
Great site, very informative, religious ramblings notwithstanding. Hopefully coming out for a recce in Sep / Oct to see what's doing in in the architectural / project management field.
Some of the stuff on here is truly scary. Cost of renting, standards of driving, cultural faux pas etc.
I noticed a poster called Spugsy who said he's coming over to Edinburgh very soon. If he reads this, maybe we could meet up for a beer and I could pick up a few tips. I'd PM the guy but it appears newbies have to wait a while before being admitted to the Magic Circle.
Anyhoo, looking forward to a possible Big Adventure in the not too distant future, as long as I can persuade the family that it's a good idea !!

Thanks, pet. Quick question - is it worthwhile learning Arabic / how much contact, generally speaking, do Westerners have with the local folk during an average day ?

well I have been here nearly 13 years and am ashamed to say that I have not learnt arabic. I think it can be very handy in the work place. I know a few basics which has been enough to get me through. Go for it though!!

My hubby has worked in the region for ten years and says he has yet to have an Arabic speaking work colleague...all Indians to date.
