Default Hearing reports of a building collapse in Deira.

The Building is a newly completed 8 storey office complex. Next to the Ramada Continental in the Abu Hail district.

More detail to follow.

(Eye witness reports - so unsubstantiated so far)

It does make you wonder how many 'accidental collapses' we are going to see...

I am sure the developer had the well place well insured.......

Eyewitness Shahid Bashir Ahmad said, "It was around 3.30pm when I saw the building collapse! I’ve never seen anything like this. There was glass everywhere; it seemed like half the building just fell to the floor. I don’t know how it happened – it just happened really fast. I was standing at a traffic signal nearby and within a few minutes, police cars and ambulance vehicles sped to the location. Construction workers were present, working at the nearby bridge – no one could believe their eyes."

I hope no-one was hurt, but I'm not surprised at all. Remember that guy Diablo saying the buildings in the region are as safe as anywhere else?

I was down the market last weekend and didn't see any buildings, I bought a pea shooter instead (and some yellow luminous socks)

It's now saying on the news that one of the construction workers has been arrested. Wonder how much he was paid to make it fall down?!

Christ its a building, not a game of kerplunk, I doubt a worker was responsible solely. Unless he pulled out the final bolt..

Or more than likely the police arrived and this worker happened to be the first person that they found..that's what usually happens....'He'll do--your knicked sonny'

he was the contractor apparently, but if you dont have people who know what they are doing building such things then this is what will happen, a lot of new building techniques are done on price alone not on the experience of the people building it and quality etc. now we are only talking a "small" building in this case but what about if it was a road bridge or the burj etc.
