I noticed from online pics that eyeliner seems to be a custom amongst some Afghan men, and I am not talking about gay men, just regular guys.

Interesting you mentioned that. I actually do watch TV soaps quite on regular basis but not for entertainment purposes, rather for educational. TV soaps For me are some kind of a window into the state of the morality of the societies they are set in. East Enders, for example, is my favorite source of information as to the trend in people’s values back home. Not forget to mention, off course, Jerry Springer show was my valuable source of information about the people on the other side of the ocean

That eyeliner that you saw is this mate : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kohl_(cosmetics)
Different names for it. Its a cultural thing, not just afghans use it though. The Egyptians first used it I think. We call it Surma in our part of the world and I used it once and it BURNS!
and my impression of you, Mr. Irishwaspskeeper is similar to the guy in this story:

This custom of putting eyeliners is an age old one , it is like the eastern version of the habit of tattooing in the west, if you will. Speaking of which, are you tattooed by any chance? I know that ladies can be pretty imaginative (and dare I say daring) when it comes to tattooing,

If you are gullible enough to think that soaps reflect real life in any way shape or form you probably believe that xfactor isn't rigged too...

You might have answered the first one before, but I don't think so. I'm just curious by the way. You disappeared for a while and now are back.
