I explained this in another thread a few days ago. Yuletide is the pre-Christian winter festival. The Christians rather cleverly hijacked existing festivals like yuletide and the Spring festivities for their own ends. Most of what we think of as 'Christmassy', trees, decorations, presents, feasting has nothing to do with religion.
