It also costs thousands to go through a robust enough process for the death penalty with all the appeals and the like - as proven in the USA. And even the slightest chance of sending the wrong person to the gallows is enough reason to discount capital punishment, IMO.

...I'd rather my tax money is used on national healhcare, crime prevention and scientific research to raise living standards for people who want to work and be decent. Unless of course you mean keep them locked up and working in labour camps until the drop dead? I suppose I wouldn't mind paying for that sort of thing...

If they swing, and I'm convinced there will be a few attempts at springing them -if they swing it'll be becos of UAE pressure..i.e don't think you can launder your dirty washing on our turf....
