Re: Global Corona Death predictions
In the earlier stages of it all they had an epidimoligist from the University of Reading doing Q+A who appeared regularly who was pretty good.
And obviously all government broadcasts were live, plus many interviews with doctors etc etc
Nothing wrong with Murdoch TV!

Has any one noticed how the world media can only really manage one sensation at a time. It only just managed to Focus on that racist redneck long enough to get him locked up and almost failed to do that. On the plus side at least we are no longer board by Brexit. If the MEPs are lucky Covid-19 will have hit the European Tourist, Farming and Fishing sectors particularly hard and there will be no one left to burn down the EU parliament.

An article on the BBC web site a few days ago, quoting Indian doctors and sources, reported that using the limited data available in India and comparing it to other countries with more extensive testing, it is likely that the number of infections in India is already in the range of 30million - 100million.

Things appear to be just getting started in India. The reported daily increase in new cases is still increasing, now up to 40,000/day.

Also places like Bangalore where minimal cases and few deaths now numbers vastly increased. Have heard that people just not obeying social distancing etc..
Schools in Karnataka will stay closed until October.
Possible that monsoon will help (people stay in / or covered with plastic!!)

Re: Global Corona Death predictions
Amongst the doom and gloom, it's quite interesting to consider that a test with a specificity of say 95% (sounds pretty reliable, doesn't it) - which the cheaper test kits that countries like, say, India are using, would be thrilled to achieve - can produce false positive results that will easily dwarf the actual positive cases, in a low-prevalence setting.

Re: Global Corona Death predictions
I predict that the deaths figure will be big news this weekend, and I, and 12 others, will be able to formally claim victory in the prediction poll at the top of this thread.

Re: Global Corona Death predictions
It's rapidly becoming about the death number really isn't it? I mean, being infected matters but so many seem to be asymptomatic.

Re: Global Corona Death predictions
The unanswered question at the moment is the mortality rate for those with "long covid" - most people who have had the disease still carry this virus, and according to a German study published a few momnths ago most people in the study had inflamed muscle tissue in the heart wall, and sometimes signs of infection in other organs. The medium to long term health implications of this are unknown, but have the potential to be serious.

Re: Global Corona Death predictions
You can also be alive and functioning, and not infected with covid-19, which IMO would be better, given that the consequences of carrying the virus for more than about 12 months is currently unknown.
