It's just a chart of where the sterling/dirham rate has been since 1 Jan - and where it is now.............

Its temporary USD strength. The chart does look dramatic but its rather deceptive as the rate has not even fallen 10% yet.

The chart looks more dramatic than it is because it doesn't start at zero. As Shadya says, it is less than a 10% fall but if you are sending money home, or want to return home with some money in the bank one day it is at least a move in the right direction.

My understanding is that the dollar has strengthened because of a fall in the price of oil while the pound has weakened because our economy is in danger of collapsing into a soggy heap on the floor. I can't see our (ie the UK) economy suddenly improving so the rate may yet continue to improve for a while.

I transferred AED 5000 yesterday, I should get an extra £200 now when I get back, thats brilliant.

so if you're saving into your UK account, you really want to be saving hard about nopw then?

whats the downside to this then??
