Apparently you say "CayMAN" (not "Caymun").

I apologised, of course.

Hi people.

I need some sage advice on what to do with my Dhirams in the UAE account.

I dont know much about currencies, but what I do know is that I will get a good rate if I do bring the money back to UK at this moment in time. Currently at £1 = 5.66 AED

Does anyone know how low the GBP/AED rate can go?

Thanks in advance.

How "low" is a piece of string?

There is no practical or realistic limit to how far it might fall........... we are in global market meltdown and - like it or not - the world still sees the US as the safest place to put their money. Dollar buying means dirham buying, riyal buying, dinar buying, etc, as they are pegged to the USD.

A GBP/AED rate of 5.00 requires GBP/USD to fall to about 1.3600 - perfectly and easily within reach, especially after last Friday when GBP/USD fell about 6.50% in less than 24 hours, before recovering.

1.36 is 18 cents below today's levels............. and it fell by about 18 cents last week alone.

Thanks for the advice.

I guess the best thing for me is to leave the money as AED as I feel things are still yet to get worse.

But I think I would regularly track rates and then have a plan to transfer money to my UK account.
