Butting in from Italy here. Italian legal system apart, this is something I've seen before when US citizens are involved. Found guilty, America balks at one of their citizen in prison here. No problem, overturn the sentence on appeal. Off they go home. US is happy. Italy is happy that the US is happy. Then a retrail is ordered. Though it's not a retrail in the UK sentence. The accused does not have to be present and nor will she be. My opinion, of course.

Bit anti-American and sexist all of this. What about Rafael Sollecito? Don't see anyone mentioning if he is hot and sexy, whether he might slash your throat in bed, or that an Italian was actually involved. Is she more culpable than him because she is a pretty American woman?
