............ to BBC Ceefax, which displayed its pages for the last time yesterday. Seems strange to realise that, pre-internet, this was the main written source of 'live' information.

I spent many a Saturday afternoon sitting watching the football scores being updated on Ceefax. Haven't used it for what 10+ years but still know that it was BBC 1, page 302 for Football Headlines.

Interesting (*yawns*) fact. BBC micro's had a built in proto-modem to access Ceefax.

Nah they didn't - they were able to display the content (*MODE 7) but you had to get a separate teletext adapter to hook them into the TV signal.

You could even download software over Ceefax! Pfft these iPhones and their fancy "App Stores"...
