Has anyone ever flown back home during Ramadan?

I am not sure if it would be right to eat and drink onboard if I am stuck next to someone who is fasting or do I just say tough?

I understood that fasting exemptions applied for travellers, even if many stick with it.

Your call; but fasting is supposed to be a test of resolve. You'd almost be doing them a favour by putting their faith to the test by eating next to them. Depending on the quality of the airline food, of course!

i felt bad, but as i'd been upgraded i just had to have that champagne and rather a lot of Chablis plus the full meal...

If you're flying out, carry on as normal. There are millions of ways to be considerate.

I flew back from Jordan last year during Ramadan late afternoon/evening. They had the normal meal service soon after take off, then a second for when the iftar was called. I had no problem chomping when I was surrounded by guys fasting. They didn't sem to mind - they too were sleeping.

Expats do not generally fast (I know there are exceptions), so when you can be discreet do so. When you can't i.e. on a plane, tough - traveller's do not have to fast it is their choice. They get Paradise, you get chicken and rice. No need to feel guilty then!

I've flown a number of times in Ramadan and even just to other parts of the GCC you can eat and drink as normal...Muslims are not obliged to fast when travelling anyways so you won't offend or upset anyone on the plane.

Ramadan or fasting is not applicable on travelling. Especially long distances. If he's fasting he might be an islamic extremist. I wouldn't be comfortable sitting near him anyways

It was eat, drink and be merry as normal on the Emirates flight I just took.
All the food outlets were open in terminal 3 and everyone was eating without a care in the world.
