Dubai: An Egyptian abandoned his wife and two young daughters at Dubai airport recently, Gulf News has learned.

The mother and daughters' visa had expired and the man did not want to pay fines for their overstay.

The man left for Cairo last Wednesday. Later immigration officials detained his family. The woman has to pay a fine of Dh100 per head for every day that the three overstay.

The woman and her daughters - aged two and three - were in Dubai on a visit visa while the husband is a resident here.

The woman and the girls were taken to a deportation centre.

They need new tickets to fly as their old ones are no longer valid.

The woman said that she does not know anyone in the UAE.

anyway...she doesn't know anyone in the UAE, fair enough, but surely she does know someone somewhere that she could contact...

What a prick if he is expecting someone somewhere to pay up on his behalf.

Unless, of course, he has gone back to get the cash together and will sort it soon rather than getting himself imprisoned. Pretty hard to sort out your finances from a prison cell.

Sure we'll find out soon enough if he plans on bailing out his family.

She manages to overstay her visa and has met NOBODY while she was here???

Sounds like the writing was on the wall before she got to the airport...

yeah you could be right!! apparently it is all being sorted out this morning, read on another forum that one of the local charity ladies is going to the detention centre to try and sort out the fines and arrange flights back. Chances are the Egyptian community may well have stepped in and helped anyway. So who is going to pay for my Lakes Club membership, had to cancel it when Atilla lost his job, donations kindly received ......
