OH..FFS!!
dining in Dubai can often be an exasperatingly pretentious experience. Why do people think that just because a restaurant does "fine dining" it has to be pretentious??
Most of the restaurants that I go to are welcoming, friendly and have very good food...just because I like a linen napkin and nice table/glassware does not make it or me pretentious! I choose not to go to the type of restaurants listed in the article..I'm not knocking them at all...they are just not my type of restaurant..I don't mock the people who go to them, it is their choice and they enjoy themselves..so live and let live!!

There is far too much "inverted snobbery" around here!!! :frown:

Good food is good food, regardless of linen or polyethylene tableware.

Me, I follow my taste buds

Exactly...it's good to see an article about something other than the high-end places so people realise it's not just all 5 star hotels.

Arva writes predominantly about low cost eateries in Bur Dubai and also runs tours of the area :)

Can I just add a new (to me) name to the list of I-thought-it-would-be-pretentious-but-it-really-wasn't restaurants?

Hukama, the Chinese at Address Downtown........... there last night with an old mate from London............. stunning. Flavours and tastes that I have, quite literally, never experienced before.

Highly recommended.

Was at Al Maya at Royal Meridian on Fri and was pretty disappointed. 330 AED for a set menu (as they wouldn't do al a carte as it was a bigish group - ~14). I was expecting a set menu with a choice, however, no. All that happens is that they bring out a few plates every now and then so its more finger foodesqe or buffet at your table. For the cash it wasn't worth it. Food was OK but there's only so many ways you can present refried beans!
