Really enjoyed it. I've occasionally dreamed "what if?" Once I can get Amazon working again, I'll rate it on there

Upto chapter 7 (i think), just one thing so far (cracking good read btw), is that when Mike goes into Ali's office after the Yemen trip. Why is there pics of an Emir on the wall as opposed to a Sheikh?

Hey - Still reading, in between other things. Read a bit more last night - really starting to dislike the protagonist, but only as is intended. So far still really enjoying it. Also very impressed with the actual writing. Good review probably coming up depending on how it all ends.
Anyone else who fancies a copy just PM me an email address and I will send the file.
And apologies to the board for spamming you so much with this, don't worry my excitement about it will wear off eventually and I will leave you alone!

I have the outline of one sketched out but I just don't have the mental strength to even type the first word. I think it will take about 6 months before I can gather any reserves to do it.

I preferred Jimmy's.
(joke, not read either yet)

Bought it yesterday on Amazon and am half way through--a bloody good read! Will leave a review as soon as I'm finished. Can't help but wonder how much is autobiographical...

Anyhow would love a review on it, only Mikewot has added one so far.
It's a work of fiction bro, all characters and events etc.

Finished "False Profits" this evening....
I always knew you were a twat. A cat hating twat I can handle. An amusing, gamboling carefree twat flitting from Sana'a to Cairo, is fine. A twattingly good writer as well is a bit much...
I just skimmed some of the comments in this thread and I get some of them, though I do read quite a bit from the pretentious to trash - and I loved the sparseness of the set up, pacing, characterisation and even the plot arc.
A possible (or predictable?) downside, this appreciation of the sparseness may be due to the fact I really can visualise most of the places and some of the people and situations - yes the even losing the moral compass and morality situations - though at least I've not gone "Bateman" yet... without too much leading by the hand would readers outside of the region associate / (dare I say it) empathsise as much?
I really thought one bit at the very end was great and another - to be honest - annoyed me, but one spoils the plot and the other is just a quibble, so I'll leave those comments for here.
Having read some of the published and self -published novels from this region (some good, some trash and some just woeful) , this to me is a really good first novel, irrespective of the location (worldwide) and captures more of the feel and desperation of the protagonists then many novels do. In a good way, more Easton Ellis than Becky Wicks and more akin with Alexander McNabb's very good "Beirut" & "Olives" than Mezrich's "Rigged"
You have a compelling, interesting and unusual pace and storytelling style.
One I hope to read more of.
Just put the cat down... (no, not like that)

I finally succumbed and bought it. 3quid down the pan now doubt. Actually it cost me a fiver as I accidentally bought another book that I thought was a freebie at the same time.
I'll read it tomorrow on my 4 hour coach ride though the wastelands of Egypt.

A coach ride in Egypt? I hope your bus has:
- Windows
- AC
- No other passengers
- A non-Egyptian driver
