Default Favourite childhood sweets?

I watched a programme the other night called 'Life is Sweets' presented by Nigel Slater all about the sweets of our childhoods.

Link here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00y4hd1

It's a charming and evocative programme and I recommend it. Most of us remember shops with jars of sweets and link certains sweets and chocolate bars to people and places. My question therefore, is what were your favourites when you were young? (Not what you like now.) Remember when sweets were a treat?

I remember eating Caramac bars and Walnut Whips with my mum. I also loved toffee bonbons, sweet peanuts and toffees covered in chocolate.

Tell me about your inner child.

I always wanted one of those. Although in my day it was '1p'.

Could be memory playing tricks on me, but for some reason two pence coins came instantly to mind when I thought of it again after several decades.

For all those feeling a bit nostalgic feast your eyes here. Myself I just wonder when Wagon Wheels shrank from being absolutely enormous to things the size of a dirham with a jam filling you need a microscope to see.

Anglo Bubbly, massive round pieces of bubble gum in individual wrappers. Tasted awesome, made great bubbles, but was a bastard to get out of hair!

Ouch!

M&S have a few retro sweets, rhubard & custard, foam shrimps, milk bottles and I've seen flying saucers and loads of other stuff in stores in Dubai.

Buying some of it pre-packed is just not the same as asking for 4oz from a big jar that's then given to you in a paper bag. I feel a bit old now...
