Favourite Apps

So... a bit of a follow on from the other thread, put your favourite apps here:

1. Waze - sat-nav with speed cameras in. It's routing engine is rubbish, but it's saved me a fortune

2. Google photos - amazing photo storage and search facility.

3. ASDA - I love it. Ok, you have to shop at ASDA but when I go to the UK, I have a full set of bargain shopping waiting for me

4. Instagram - I need my daily fix of twerking African-Americans and this gives it to me.

5. Stronglifts 5x5 - I've gone from squatting 20Kg, to 100Kg (1.5x body weight) thanks to this app.

6. Turbo VPN - for those times when you need to look at some porn while taking a shit and you need to unlock the good stuff.

WhatsApp has gone beyond being an app. It's bascially standard software.

Given that Irish posted the Atlantic article, I must say I've been deliberately trying to minimise the amount of time I spend on the iPhone. I won't add new apps unless I have to. I now take a book to read in the taxi so I don't stare at the phone the entire time. I won't take it with me into the gym. And I feel so much better for it.

Apps are great for helping make your life easier, but they shouldn't come to dominate it. And it looks like that's what's happening for so many teens.

Mobile Addiction Infographic

Sort of 'fell out' with a best mate recently over this. Stopped inviting him over and stopped wanting to socialise with him because of a truly terrible, all consuming phone addiction.
Eventually told him why I'd stopped and he had no real idea. But why come to my home to sit on the sofa and stare at your phone? Why bother? Save the cab money.

I can be bad at times but similarly, I can also live without it, which is nice.

I feel with this you've got to set yourself certain boundaries. No phones in the bedroom, kitchen and whilst eating. Find it really depressing when I see couples staring at their phones in silence whilst eating in a restaurant (or worse, a whole family including youngsters on tablets)

On the apps front:

TuneIn Radio (stream any radio station worldwide, fave being Ibiza 538)
Showbox for films/GoT
Turbo VPN
Spotify for workout playlists
Heads Up (good party game)
Entertainer (!)
FaceApp (see what you look like as the opposite sex/or when you're old haha)
Plants v Zombies 2 for a game fix

Amen to that.
Phones away at dinner, especially when out for dinner. Scary how many people sit in silence with one or both looking at their phones. I'd rather sit in silence looking around or at the lovely lady, that's a silence I am comfortable with.
